It was built after the model of the Monastery Manasija and it is the third largest church in Serbia. It is located in the center of Smederevo and it frames the main City square together with later built representative structures of the Court and the Municipal Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The Church was made of white marble, according to the design of the Engineer Jana Nevoda and the builder was Andrija Damjanov from Veles. Its style is Serbo \u2013 Byzantine, although some architectural elements bear features of Romantic and Baroque architecture.<br><br>The Church of Saint George, as a cultural monument, is an immovable cultural property. It is classified as one of the most beautiful and the most spacious churches in Serbia built during the Great Recovery after the First and the Second Serbian Uprising.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-column qodef-gutenberg-column qodef-block-c70950dc\"><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-column-inner\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-spacer qodef-block-container qodef-block-435fc9f6\"><div class=\"qi-block-spacer qodef-block qodef-m\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-columns qodef-gutenberg-section qodef--template qodef-block-84c8951a qodef-col-num--1 qodef-col-layout--100 qodef-content--predefined qodef-content--1100\"><div class=\"qodef-section-background-overlay\"><\/div><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-row\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-column qodef-gutenberg-column qodef-block-5a53434a\"><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-column-inner\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-white-color has-text-color has-extra-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Within the church, the &#8222;Sloga&#8220; church choir has been functioning (since the end of the 19th century), as well as the children&#8217;s church choir of the same name. Today, it is a memorial complex whose core consists of the Church, Dina Man\u010di\u0107\u2019s Chapel and a memorial ossuary with a bell tower.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Medieval Church of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God is located in the central part of the Old Cemetary in Smederevo. The Church was built in the 15th century on the site of the older necropolis, and the wall paintings dates from the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. The construction method belongs to the style of Morava Architectural School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-spacer qodef-block-container qodef-block-4047e649\"><div class=\"qi-block-spacer qodef-block qodef-m\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><br><\/mark>It is not known who the Ktitor (founder who provided funds) for the construction of the Church was, but it is assumed that the grave chapel of Metropolitan Athanasius was located here. Archaeological researches conducted in the 1980s proved that the Church dignitaries were buried here and before that the members of the immediate Brankovi\u0107 family \u2013 which gave birth to some theories that the Ktitor of the Church was Despot \u0110ura\u0111 Brankovi\u0107 himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-spacer qodef-block-container qodef-block-e2ce8342\"><div class=\"qi-block-spacer qodef-block qodef-m\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-column qodef-gutenberg-column qodef-block-15c5a6f0\"><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-column-inner\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-columns qodef-gutenberg-section qodef--template qodef-block-2f4cbe49 qodef-col-num--3 qodef-col-layout--16-66-16 qodef-content--full-width\"><div class=\"qodef-section-background-overlay\"><\/div><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-row\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-column qodef-gutenberg-column qodef-block-5a4efaa1\"><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-column-inner\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-column qodef-gutenberg-column qodef-block-ef6f7712\"><div class=\"qodef-gutenberg-column-inner\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Next to the Church there is a grave of Dimitrije Davidovi\u0107, the father of Serbian journalism and the author of Candlemas Constitution, the first constitution of Serbian state.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Not far off, there is a grave chapel of Dina Man\u010di\u0107, Smederevo trader and craftsman, the benefactor who left his enormous property for the erection of Gymnasium in Smederevo and the education of poor pupils. The Chapel was built in 1884, according to the design of the architect Aleksandar Bugarski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-qi-blocks-spacer qodef-block-container qodef-block-a0f1f2ca\"><div class=\"qi-block-spacer qodef-block qodef-m\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><br>The memorial ossuary is dedicated to the victims of the catastrophic 5th June Explosion which destroyed Smederevo in 1941.
